Developmental Milestones and Temper Tantrums!

It has been quite a week in the world of Gus! He has started deftly climbing our stairs, signing 2 signs in baby sign language, throwing temper tantrums, eating veggie sushi for the first time and he has learned to point at certain parts of his body and identify them!
The stair climbing is out of control. We have a gate on the entry to the stairs, but Joel installed it about a foot taller than it should be so Gus has learned to easily (and quickly) slither under the gate and go up the stairs, all in a matter of about 20 seconds. He heard daddy getting ready for work upstairs this morning and promptly crawled over to the stairs and went right up (with me behind him of course), opened the door to our room and went inside to smile and "talk" to daddy. It was super cute!
Baby sign language is going well, too! Gus knows the meaning behind quite a few signs (eat, all done, milk, bath, water etc.) but he has only been signing milk consistently. This morning he signed Thank you for the first time and I screamed in excitement! We have only been working on please and thank you for about a week so he picked up on it pretty quickly! Of course as soon as I tried to get him to sign a 2nd time, it was a no go, oh well! He also does the sign for milk a lot lately, with both hands at the same time. It's super cute. And he gets very excited when he does the sign because he knows milk is the next step!
Temper tantrums have reached an all time high this week for some reason. Anytime we say "not for August", usually regarding the computer or a cord somewhere, he arches his back and then buries his face in the ground and pouts for a good 2 minutes. I never let him see me laugh as a reaction (so as not to reinforce the behavior) but it is pretty funny when he acts as if he is being abused every time he is told no. I am sure they will only increase so just have to ignore and let him figure out that the tantrums will not get a reaction from us.
Sunday night we made a family trip to go out for sushi at SanSai in NW Portland (our go to spot). Gus entertained himself with chopsticks (as always) and this time I ordered him miso soup (tons and tons of health benefits btw) and brown rice veggie sushi. To my surprise, he loved the seaweed wrappers and most of the veggies inside. He gobbled down almost an entire roll by himself! I guess it makes sense because I did eat sushi frequently when I was preggo with him! Sidenote- do your research if you are pregnant and want to eat sushi! My midwives gave me the go ahead to eat it while preggo and for good reason! Japanese women have been eating sushi during pregnancy for YEARS without any ill effects. As long as you go to a place that serves FRESH fish and has good sanitary measures, you should be fine. In fact there is about 100 times higher risk you will get sick from beef, chicken or pork while pregnant than raw fish! Just avoid tuna and other high mercury fishes. Besides, salmon is extremely high in Omega 3 fatty acids, which aid in brain development in the womb!! Can't beat that!
The last developmental milestone this week has been body parts! We have been working with Gus to point to his mouth, nose, eyes and ears when we ask where they are. The other day in the car, he pointed to all 3 when asked each time!! Now he mostly points to his mouth or ear or my mouth or teeth. He LOVES teeth for some reason! Weird kid! He is developing and growing so fast, it's crazy!! So proud of my little boy!!

Here are some pictures from the week!
