Mother's Day 2013

Happy Mother's day to my mom and all the amazing mamas I am blessed to know!

I loved my mother's day (more on that later)....but right now I would like to elaborate on mommyhood for a bit.
Mother's are the heartbeat of society. They are so much more than the woman who gave birth to you (although let us give respect for that). They have the hardest, and often, most overlooked and under-appreciated job in the world. They are the loving embrace, the warm kiss, the sweet cuddles, the magical healer when you feel sick, your biggest supporter, your truest friend. They will always worry about you, think about you, dream for you, work hard for you, nourish you , nurture you, endure any amount of pain for you, die for you. They feel happy vicariously through your happiness. They will always think of you before they make any big decisions, you will be their first thought in the morning and their last thought at night. You will be their pride and joy and you will be loved like you will never be loved by anyone else.
Whenever I think of motherhood, I am reminded of a song that Joel and I sing to our boys, and one of the reasons we call Phoenix baby bird:

"Come back baby bird
With your dirty wings in tatters
Come home where you belong
Nobody knows you better
Now bring back your velvet heart
And we'll make you brand new feathers
Sleep through the morning light
With your arms around your brother

Babybird
come back home
Babybird
you were never really on your own

Now outside faces cry
With the tears of lonesome orphans
And behind every mask
is the face of another
Wherever you have been
wherever you took cover
No arms that pulled you in
could hold you like your mother

Babybird
come back home
Babybird
you were never really on your own

When all my colors fade
And my wings, they've turned to leather
I'll know the reasons why
God let me get older
When all my days are through
And I fly these hills no longer
I'll lay beneath the stars
And I'll watch you flying over

Babybird
come back home
Babybird
you were never really on your own

Babybird
come back home
Babybird
you will never be all alone"

The last verse always has me in tears, every.single.time.
If you are lucky enough to have a mom, please give her a kiss, a huge hug and say "thank you for loving me and for all that you do " because truly there is no love quite like that of a mother and one day, your mother will be gone from this earth and you will miss her.
My greatest goal in life is to have my sons look back on their childhood and remember their mama showering them with hugs and kisses, cooking and feeding them good food and knowing that I love them more than anything. I strive to be the perfect mama for my lovebug and babybird and I really hope they are proud of me!
I love you bunches and bunches and to the moon and back August James and Phoenix Noble! Thank you both for making me a mama and for giving me hope and love in this crazy world. I really am lucky, and I tell myself that every single day.
Happy Mother's Day!
